Making a Difference Together: Chad Mahoney and Subaru Loves Pets - Carissa H.
For the past several years, Chad Mahoney of Wackerli Subaru has made an extraordinary impact on the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter through the Subaru Loves Pets program. Each October, one of the most challenging months in animal sheltering, Chad shows up with unwavering dedication, kindness, and enthusiasm to support our lifesaving work. Through Subaru’s “Subaru Loves Pets” grant program, our shelter is able to offer a “Name Your Price” adoption special during a time when our space is stretched thin and so many kittens in foster care are finally old enough for adoption. This support directly helps us move dogs and cats into loving homes quickly—freeing space, reducing stress, and truly changing lives. Chad has become an essential part of this effort. He takes high-quality photos of our animals so they can shine online, he stays with us throughout our adoption events, and he brings tables full of goodies for both people and pets. His presence is always uplifting—he is consistently kind, courteous, and willing to pitch in wherever needed. From the first setup to the final adoption, Chad sees every project through with genuine care. His dedication doesn’t just help our shelter; it improves the experience for our staff, our community, and—most importantly—our animals. Working with Chad is always a joy, and his partnership with Wackerli Subaru makes a tangible difference during the busiest and most demanding time of our year. Thank you Subaru, Wackerli Subaru, and Chad Mahoney.

Wackerli Subaru Supports United Way of Idaho Falls and Bonneville County - Joshua S.
Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, even here in Idaho Falls, this is a harsh reality. Helping others strengthens communities, which is why Wackerli Subaru is partnering with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. Through this partnership and other Subaru Loves to Help® efforts, Subaru and retailers like Wackerli Subaru have helped nearly 900,000 children and adults in urgent need. "We Care" 2024 Share the Love - Ariel J.
We are incredibly grateful to Wackerli Subaru for their generous donation to Community Food Basket. At a time when families are facing record-high food prices and overwhelming uncertainty, this gift could not have come at a more critical time. As summer approaches, we are preparing to serve Kid Kits—ready-to-eat meals and snack items. We expect to serve about 5,000 children in our community, just this summer alone. Many of these kids are home alone while their parents work, and they depend on us for meals that they can safely prepare themselves. Wackerli Subaru’s donation is more than just a monetary gift—it’s a lifeline. Through our buying power and partnerships, we can stretch this donation to nearly four times its value, turning it into thousands of meals that will help the children we serve throughout the summer. This is the power of our community. This is what happens when a company like Subaru steps up and says, “We care.” Because of this incredible support, we’re able to do more than we ever could on our own—and for that, we thank you.

Above and Beyond with Wackerli Subaru - CARISSA H.
We've had the pleasure of working with Chad Mahoney for the last two years. Chad came to us and, extended an offer to participate with Subaru Loves Pets, we happily accepted. Chad is by far the most kind and generous supporter we have had the pleasure of working with. It is incredibly apparent that his passion for this campaign goes beyond brand expectations and is fueled by his love for animals, and people. Chad not only comes to our shelter with supplies but has also come to do photoshoots with our shelter animals to help with adoptions! If you have never participated in a shelter animal photoshoot, let us tell you, it is time-consuming and requires tons of patience! When we arrive at Wackerli Subaru, our animals are treated like royalty, and to be honest, so are we. Chad sets up an area dedicated to our animals, making sure they have shade, a manicured yard to play in, plenty of fresh water and a clear line of sight for potential adopters. Chad interacts with the animals and team, the entire time we are there. Our team consists of not only staff, but also a handful of gentlemen from the Idaho Department of Corrections. These men are in their final stretch of incarceration and have had to work hard to prove to IDOC(Idaho Department of Corrections), that they are trustworthy enough to be allowed to volunteer hours in the community, and outside of prison. We try to include these men in public events, as we believe it helps with their future after incarceration. Though you might not realize it, these guys are insecure and oftentimes feel intimidated when they face interactions with people outside of their peer groups. We want them to feel like they are part of a productive society, and that they are contributing. We want them to have positive expectations of themselves once they leave incarceration. We can tell you, without a doubt, that Chad's inclusivity helps greatly with their confidence. Chad interacts with these gentlemen (they love to talk about cars) just as much as he does his customers, our staff, and the shelter animals we care for. We are all treated the same way, with genuine kindness. If you have never met Chad, his eyes smile when he interacts with you, it seems no matter who, or what you are, humans and animals. Chad’s positivity is contagious, and we truly enjoy interactions with this man. Recently, Chad stopped by our shelter with a special gift for the men from IDOC who have participated in the Subaru adoption events. When they opened the box that Chad brought by, smiles spread across their faces. Inside of the box were THE COOLEST Subaru shirts, and enough for all of them! They will not wear these coveted shirts to our shelter because they don’t want to ruin them. Chad's gift to these men that day goes beyond shirts. Chad also gave them a sense of pride, appreciation and the feeling of being human, of being seen. To Chad, these men were not invisible, they were just as important as any friend he has known, that is how he makes them feel. These interactions are monumental. This was so unexpected and appreciated. Chad Mahoney and Wackerli Subaru change lives. We would have never met Chad had it not been for Subaru Loves Pets and we are grateful. The animals that have been adopted because of Subaru’s adoption events, sponsorships and, Chad’s amazing photos, have helped our shelter maintain our no-kill status and have helped us keep our heads above water during our hardest months of the year! Chad’s treatment of people, no matter their background, might be the little turn in the road of life that takes these gentlemen to places they didn’t think they could go and the confidence to get there.

The Center for Hope's Annual Summer BBQ Fundraiser! - Michelle S.
Hi! Just wanted to share a little love story with you. Every year Recovery Strong (an all-recovery support meeting) and The Center For Hope host a fund-raising BBQ in June. This year, with the help of community partners like Wackerli Subaru, we were able to raise just over 7k dollars. With this money they take on community service projects and last month was the first one for the year. They were able purchase 100 backpacks and fill them with school supplies and offer them to the community. All of them were claimed the very first day! So many grateful parents and happy kiddos. We look forward to doing this every year and with your guys' support we should be able to. We have some special stuff planned for the upcoming holiday season too. I will keep you updated. Thank you again from Recovery Strong and The Center For Hope. You are an amazing community partner! Michelle Smoley, CPRC/CPSS 208-541-4107 530 E. This partnership involves delivering blankets, patient care kits, and messages of hope to cancer patients, distributed on June 20th, 2024. Wackerli Subaru Sharing the Love with Hospice - Sierra M.
Hospice of Eastern Idaho is incredibly grateful for the generous support from Wackerli Subaru. The Share the Love event's contribution will enable us to continue to offer vital care to uninsured patients, ensuring that everyone in the community receives the treatment they need, regardless of their financial situation. A portion of the funds will be allocated to our children's and adolescents' grief group, Heartstone, which is dedicated to helping young individuals hold on to love and navigate through loss. By teaching children to recognize and manage their emotions, develop coping mechanisms, and enhance family communication, Heartstone plays a crucial role in providing essential support. Additionally, we are committed to delivering bereavement services to our community, and the funding will significantly expand our ability to provide comprehensive assistance to those in need. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Wackerli Subaru for their invaluable support, which allows us to continue offering these impactful programs to our community. Thank you, Sierra McNeil Business Office Manager
Operation Warm - Chad M.
From a Volunteer Standpoint at Wackerli Subaru Subaru Loves to Care Mikayla Johnson Sales Advisor: “I enjoyed getting to meet the kids and their families.” She was a little surprised to see that whole families showed up, Mother, Father and kids. She felt like a lot of them came in with out coats… “It was cold that day and the families came in not wearing coats. I think we made a real difference for them. “ “I’d enjoy volunteering next year. It was a big deal getting to see actual recipients of our donation efforts.” Mason Meyer Service Advisor: Mason mentioned how many of those that came in had stories to tell about how difficult it is to get coats for their families these days. “I was surprised by how much need there is in our community.” Mason, along with other members of our team were given a tour of the United Way Facility and the volunteers from the United Way shared how their organization worked and the goals they had. “The hospitality from the people at United Way really stood out to me.” Chad Mahoney Subaru Love Champion: “I was also very grateful to the United Way for organizing everything. They did a wonderful job and were very welcoming to our team when we arrived to hand out the coats. Whenever we work with the local charities that have anything to do with human welfare, I can’t help but feel slightly overwhelmed with how many people absolutely depend on organizations like the United Way to help with some of the basic needs we all face. Operation Warm was a great partner for spreading the love in our community, into places that can often be overlooked. During the event I was blessed to see the smiling faces of children and their family members as they sought out just the right coat… The one that stood out among all of them was a teenage girl who was there with her Aunt. She’d looked and looked for a coat that not only fit her body but also fit her own individual style. After several minutes, I located one I thought might work and brought it over to her Aunt to look at. Before her Aunt could comment though, she snatched it up and tried it on… then, with a huge smile, did a little dance. That was THE ONE. Everyone either smiled or laughed in her excitement. Success!” Derrick Harmel Marketing Manager: “What stood out to me on that day is that there were kids with no coats or even shoes on. They came in without coats and it was snowing outside.” He enjoyed getting to meet the people from the United Way and finding out what they do for our community. “The families were so thankful! It just felt good to help them find just the right coat.” On behalf of Wackerli Subaru, a Huge, “Thank You” to the people from Operation Warm for all their help in organizing and scheduling this event. We are proud to have helped our community with 400 coats for the winter.
Follow Up Story from our Recovery Strong BBQ Fundraiser! - Michelle S.
Good morning! I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know a few things that we have been able to do this year with the help of your contribution during the Recovery Strong fundraiser BBQ last June. We noticed a lot of our treatment court families were struggling with back to school for their kids. We were able to purchase 100 back packs and fill them with basic back to school supplies. Needless to say, all of them were claimed and appreciated. Once our courts were taken care of, we offered the rest to the community and they were gone in less than an hour. It was an awesome feeling seeing the kiddos come in and pick their favorite color back pack and the parents were able to breathe a sigh of relief. For the holiday season we were able to adopt 10 residents at a local assisted living facility and will be providing Christmas gifts for them. We got tags off a super cute tree they have with names and short lists of wants and needs. It really is humbling seeing these lists and we look forward to delivering these gifts in December. We have also adopted a local family in need through the program Clandestine Kringle and will be providing Christmas gifts for all the children in the home. We are able to contribute substantially to these efforts and it's because of GREAT community relationships like we have with Wackerli Subaru. Thank you again so much! Together we can truly make a difference. It takes a village. Michelle Smoley CPRC The Center For Hope

The Center for HOPE Charity BBQ Fundraiser - Derrick H.
My name is Michelle, I am a recovery coach here at The Center for HOPE in Idaho Falls. The Center for HOPE is a nonprofit resource center for the recovery community. We facilitate 108 self-help meetings, educational groups and community-based activities every month with all of them being provided free of charge. We employ five full-time recovery coaches. The Center for HOPE works hand in hand with the Community Reentry Center, the Pocatello's Women's Correctional Center, and Bonneville County Treatment Courts providing recovery coaching to those impacted by addiction and the judicial system. We also work with The Behavioral Health Crisis Center providing resources and peer-based support for those in crises. We held our 1st BBQ Fundraiser last year with ALL proceeds going to the Center for HOPE. ALL donations and raffle prizes were donated local businesses, and we were able to raise $1500 and we were very proud of that. This year with the help of Wackerli Subaru, we raised an astonishing $4500! Thank You to Wackerli Subaru for being so willing to support our fund-raising efforts and collaborate for this very important cause.
Subaru Loves to Care® Blanket Delivery with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® - Aubrey S.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) was honored to once again partner with Wackerli Subaru in the Subaru Loves to Care® initiative. The generous Subaru staff brought their annual cozy blankets to the oncology patients at Idaho Cancer Center at EIRMC and extended sentiments of hope, love, and support to hospital staff, patients and their families. The patients love these blankets and everything they represent in this difficult time, but the thoughtful hand-written notes of encouragement from the Wackerli Subaru Team means so much and puts this incredible program over the top. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® is so grateful for this impactful and meaningful partnership and program. We can’t thank everyone enough for their time, resources, and coordination to make this project come to life to support local oncology patients, families and hospital teams!
Wackerli Subaru shows unwavering support to Snake River Animal Shelter! - Nora P.
Snake River Animal Shelter is grateful that for several years Wackerli Subau has chosen us to support during the Share the Love® Event, but this year we were truly in for a surprise when the team of Wackerli Subaru presented us with a check of $21,263. With rising costs for everything, from veterinary care to utilities, this support is much needed and will help us to rescue over 1,000 animals this year alone!
Life Change - Chad M.
“I like the car, and the overall experience was great. [Additional] yes, Mikayla was nice, very willing to listen to my needs, wasn't pushy, and very patient with me. she kept making sure that I understood everything, and asked if I had questions. She took the time to explain things to me. It was overall a very pleasant experience.” Loa Bell recently purchased a new, 2023 Crosstrek, from our dealership, trading in an older model Pontiac… Here is the story behind that purchase… Loa’s husband had just recently passed away, within the past year and her only vehicle was a 2006 Pontiac that had belonged to her husband. The decision to trade in the car was a difficult one for her as it contained many fond memories of her partner in life, her best friend and her husband. She knew that she needed something safe and reliable but also large enough to take care of her daily needs and lifestyle. After doing some research and speaking with family and friends, she thought that a Subaru might be a good fit for her needs. When she came into our dealership, she brought her daughter and son-in-law, a car mechanic, for support. She’d never had to deal with purchasing a vehicle before because her husband had always handled these things. Mikayla Johnson, one of our salespeople, greeted the small family and through the course of their interaction began to understand not only Loa’s needs but also about how personal and unique Loa’s situation was. They quickly determined that the Crosstrek would be her best fit and later that day, Loa placed a deposit on a Crosstrek our store would be receiving in approximately six weeks. When Loa’s new Crosstrek had arrived at the store, Mikayla invited Loa into the dealership to go over her new car and take care of all the documentation. This time, Loa came in by herself. Mikayla could sense how emotional this moment was for her. She was letting go of a precious touchstone that contained so many cherished moments she’d had with her husband. After all the documents had been signed, Loa and Mikayla transferred a small myriad of sentimental items into her new Crosstrek, ensuring that those memories still had a connection to her life. Even though Mikayla had gone over the car with Loa in detail, she could sense her nervousness and unease. Mikayla then made the decision to forgo a family birthday gathering and invited Loa to take her on a ride to Loa’s home, while she began to get used to her new car and listened to Loa’s whole story. Their ride lasted over an hour and Loa was so incredibly grateful that Mikayla would spend all the time she needed getting comfortable with this big change in her life. Mikayla felt a bond with Loa and treated her the way she’d hope someone might treat her own grandmother, in similar circumstances.
Christmas Basket Project - Derrick H.
Dear Steve, The Idaho Falls Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul very much appreciates your generous support of the Christmas Basket Project. Your participation helped us continue our mission to serve the disadvantaged in our community. The Christmas Basket Project began as a labor of love in 1977 from the vision of a community member to provide Christmas for families in need. The project rapidly flourished and improved each subsequent year. In the late 1990s, the program was moved under the umbrella of our local Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The Catholic community, along with the First Presbyterian Church, are now the organizers and leaders of the project and continue to follow in the footsteps of Grace's inspiration to sow small seeds of charity and love. The project has become ecumenical with help from other local churches, private schools, businesses, and youth groups. We are funded with individual donations and business/organizations supporters. We are very well known for our financial thriftiness and pride ourselves in being good stewards of the money entrusted to us. Because of your participation we were able to provide Christmas for 175 families and 539 children. Recipients of the Christmas Basket Project received food boxes according to family size, each child age newborn to age 13 received needs as requested, such as warm clothing, shoes, coats, bedding/blankets and a toy, and children aged 14-18 (attending school) received a gift card. The Idaho Falls Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Again, THANK YOU. We very much appreciate your generous support of providing us with your building. Your generosity helped make Christmas morning more joyful for many less-fortunate families in our community. Christ's Peace, Bryan Forsmann Board President
Subaru partnership helps with adoptions - Nora P.
Through our partnership with Wackerli Subaru, Snake River Animal Shelter hosted a wonderful adoption event during the month of October. We brought two incredible dogs to Wackerli Subaru in Idaho Falls along with a photo binder that showcased every dog available for adoption at our rescue shelter just 10 minutes away! Thanks to our Operations Director, Romi Frizzell and our 2022 Volunteer of the Year, 13-year-old Bo Weaver, our booth not only featured our dog adoption binder, but also information about our Idaho K9 Training Academy that helps keep dogs in their homes with proper training. Within just a few hours of the event, Smokey, a husky who came with us to the dealership, was adopted by a customer in the store thanks to the support of Wackerli Subaru and Snake River Animal Shelter! Smokey is a one-year-old female who was originally surrendered in March 2022 and then returned in September 2022. She was surrendered as a puppy because her senior owners couldn't handle her energy and loved her enough to want her to find the perfect home. Her new owner James is thrilled to have her and she's getting along wonderfully in her new home. Bonus...James also made a generous contribution to our shelter at the time of adoption to help support our shelter operations! We also want to share a special story about Chopper. Chopper's new owner Tad Bradley is a Subaru owner and U.S. Military Veteran who heard about the Subaru Loves Pets event but couldn't make it to the event but came to our shelter a few weeks later. Tad came to our shelter and adopted Chopper, a senior Belgian Malinois. Chopper's owner passed away and Chopper and his sister were abandoned outside of their groomer's shop by an unknown person. Their groomer called our shelter and we were able to take them in. Chopper was quickly adopted in less than two weeks but then returned because he had spent his entire eight years of life with a companion (sister) dog and was lonely in his new home without any other animals. He was with us again for nearly a month when Tad walked in the door and saw Chopper! His name is now "Chief" and his owner sent us this recent update: "Chief is doing terrific and fits right in with the rest of the pack. He's getting used to the idea that he is home and that I will always come back. The house has never been safer from squirrels than it has been under Chief's watch. Our neighbor Bob has taken a liking to him, so he enjoys a bit or two of steak from time-to-time and yes, he has his own couch! Thanks to Subaru for the awesome leash and water bowl!
"The Mahoney House" - Derrick H.
Hi Joseph, A HUGE thanks to you and Chad for delivering the Outback to our office in Salmon. The Mahoney House is a non-profit agency that provides assistance and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence in Lemhi and Custer Counties, a population of over 12,000 people in a geography that spans nearly 10,000 square miles. Having a SAFE, RELIABLE, and COMFORTABLE vehicle for our Advocates and survivors will be a boon to The Mahoney House as we fulfill our mission. We employ a staff of only five and provide services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. When a survivor needs us, we need to be available to them. When our vehicle arrived at Wackerli Subaru, one of our Advocates was still out on maternity leave, and another staff member was traveling to assist survivors within our service area, but hours away. Taking two staff members to pick up the vehicle in Idaho Falls would have meant leaving just one Advocate in Salmon to respond to any crisis for that day. As it turned out, The Mahoney House was called upon on to help two survivors, and we would have been caught short-handed that day without your support. Thank You for sharing the LOVE by driving the five-hour round trip to Salmon and allowing The Mahoney House to be able to share the love with survivors in our rural communities! Best, Patrick Reagan Executive Director
Wackerli SUBARU - Support you can count on! - Nora P.
What a surprise when we received an email from Derrick Harmel from Wackerli Subaru in the beginning of May letting us know that they will donate $16,270 to Snake River Animal Shelter- their biggest donation so far. Each year during Subaru's nationwide “Share the Love" event, Subaru donates $250 to a nonprofit for each new vehicle purchased during that time. Through changing leadership and staff throughout the past two years at SRAS, Wackerli SUBARU remained as committed to supporting our organization as we remained focused on our mission: to improve and save animal lives by promoting quality care and compassion through adoption and humane education in the region. And the support pays off! Since its founding, SRAS has not only achieved a no-kill status itself by giving all animals in our care an unlimited length of stay but also supported other regional shelters in the region to lower their euthanasia rates. More than 6,800 animals have found their new homes, since Snake River Animal Shelter opened its doors and more than 1000 dogs have been trained, since the K-9 Academy was started - our dog training program for shelter dogs and owned pets alike. As we are entirely dependent on donations, grants and limited operating income, all that would not have been possible without the essential support from community partners like Wackerli Subaru whose unconditional commitment carried us through the COVID-19 pandemic and many other challenges in the past years.

Thank you to Wackerli Subaru for supporting the Delta Waterfowl Snake River Chapter nesting structure programs! Each year with the help of Wackerli Subaru we are able to maintain and install new wood duck nesting structures along the Snake River in the east Idaho region. These structures are great way for cavity nesters, such as the wood duck, who naturally look for holes in trees to have an option to nest. With Wackerli Subaru's support we have been able to survey and record many active breeding pairs of wood ducks who have produced over 100 new wood ducks to the local population in just the last couple of years. We look forward to the many years to come and we mean it when we say we couldn't have done it with out you!
Christmas Basket project needed a building - Roger M.
2021 Christmas Basket Project December of 2021 marked the 44th year of the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Basket project in Idaho Falls. This is a partnership of St. Vincent de Paul, the Saint John Paul II Catholic Community and the First Presbyterian Church, with support from many other organizations and individuals in the community. The project has grown to the point that for about the last 20 years we have needed to “borrow” a large vacant building where we can receive and sort unwrapped children’s gifts and lay out boxes in which we place certain food items that are distributed according to family sizes. Wackerli Subaru had recently moved from their former location on N. Holmes to a new location. Steve Wackerli generously allowed us to use the empty building to conduct our 2021 project. Wackerli employees, Carol Kolbet and Ryan McCray were very helpful in facilitating our use of the building (getting keys for us, helping with insurance, making sure the building was warm and secure and bathrooms were working, etc.). They even arranged for us to use their forklift to aid in unloading pallets of food and other supplies. And just before our distribution day they plowed the snow from the parking lot where our families came to pick up their food and gifts. That was a big help! Over a period of a little over two weeks, dozens of volunteers from the community came to the building to help with the set up for distribution day. Then on December 18, 2021 there were 172 families (representing over 870 people) that drove around the building where volunteers carried their Christmas food and gifts to their cars. 549 children got gifts and/or gift cards. Without the donation of the former Subaru building we could not have carried out this project, and many of these families and children would have had very little for Christmas.
The repair that made all the difference - Darrell L.
In a day and age where its hard to find people who have your best interest in mind. I'm a competing dealer and had a customer who needed a repair on their Subaru and needed all the help they could get. I can't say enough good things about the service manager Cody and the Manager Tyler they went above and beyond to help us but most importantly our customers who were in a bind. They chizzled out the absolute best deal on the repair they could to help our customers out. It was such a great experience working with these two in charge and we're grateful there are still dealers and people who truly want to help where they can. Grateful for the Subaru team and look forward to doing more future business with them.
Did Wackerli Subaru go above and beyond, provide exceptional service, or support causes that are important to you? We'd love to hear about it.
